Davy Crockett said is best in just one sentence “You can all go to hell; I will go to Texas”.
There is something really special to me about Texas! I have been heading out to Texas a few times a year, for about 7 years now. There is a bluntness and a “no bullshit” way of life in Texas that I can’t get enough of! To me everything seems a little simpler… people tend to cut to the chase a bit more. You put your head down and work hard, love your family, and love God.. and that’s pretty much it! Sounds so simple.. but as much as I love my State of California, and have a lot of California pride… we could learn a thing or two from Texas!
One of my closest girlfriends married a cowboy she met at NFR in Vegas, and moved on out to East Texas and planted roots. I started going out to see her, and help work their cattle a few times a year. Another one of my best friends moved to West Texas on the other side of the state, and got hitched as well! Coincidentally, my husband has been making trips out to Texas every year for about 12 yrs now to, to visit co-workers in Austin, and put on surf contests in Corpus Christi! Every time I head out to Texas now, I try to make what I call a Texas Triangle. I’ll drive from East Texas to West Texas to the Gulf… visiting friends ranches, hitting Honky Tonks and seeing some of our favorite Texas acts such as Jesse Dayton and Dale Watson, eating BBQ, shopping for Tinker Tin at the junk shows along the way…. and ending the trip in the Gulf with a surf contest! Below are some pictures from my latest trip! Hope to be back again in the Spring!
